whototalkto.com, a new job referral service

Got an email today from the founder of a new job referral exchange called whototalkto.com.

Here's how it works:

1. You post a referral to a job you know about, say, at your Uncle's company. That gets you a point in the system.

2. Now you search through the database of other job referrals. If you find one you like, you can "spend" your point to see the full listing which includes the company/HR contact information.

This is kind of like a Jigsaw for job seekers. It opens up a new way of job hunting via strangers and the jobs they know about. Think hidden job market...

There's an interview with the site's founder Brian McCullough here.

I like the idea. Its free for now but I do think they'll be charging for some kind of premium service at some point. Of course it will only be useful if there are enough referrals in the system to attract other job seekers. But requiring users to enter a referral of their own is a smart idea. This site is worth watching.
