Are Older Workers Having an Easier Time Getting Jobs?

According to a new survey baby boomers are more sought after in today's job market.

Older workers are in high demand. As a result, the number of Americans working in their 50s, 60s, 70s and even 80s is at a record high, according to a new analysis of federal employment data by global outplacement consultancy Challenger, Gray & Christmas, Inc.

Is this true?

Everything I've read says older workers are constantly being discriminated against because of their age. But with the labor shortage becomng more acute everyday it is true that more employers are courting older candidates.

My question is has their new found "love affair" with the boomers actually started making a difference in the job market? Is it easier for boomers to find a decent job today?

I'd love to hear from those of you who have an opinion on this.

Hi, this is Alexandra Levit from the Water Cooler Wisdom blog. I am skeptical that older workers are especially valued in today's workplace. I still see discrimination occurring fairly regularly, mostly when baby boomers interview for new jobs. However, I think the tide will start to change as boomers become the majority and there are simply fewer workers available. Also, a massive brain drain in the coming years will render the remaining older workers supremely qualified to serve as critical mentors for emerging leaders.
