Google & Jobs

There's been a lot of chatter this week about Google's new move into online classifieds. Everyone in the recruiting world has chimed in including Cheesman and Charlene Li. Consensus from the experts seems to be doom and gloom for online job boards.

Not so fast I say. It may be that the larger job boards such as Monster will eventually lose ground. But to me there will always be a place for niche and regional job boards that deliver results. Results that employers are willing to pay for.

I cite one of my own sites as an example. FairfieldCountyJobs.com is the most popular job board in Connecticut right now. Each month it gets more than 100,000 unique visitors that apply for jobs from hundreds of local companies. My clients are extremely loyal with about 80% returning to post jobs again and again. Just read some of the testimonials the site has received in the past six years. Revenues have increased about 25% per year since it launched in 1999.

The fact that Google is trying to offer every service under the sun is great, but they won't dominate the internet in everything! There will always be a need for sites like mine. As long as it provides results, the jobs will come.
